A Historic Arlington Institution. Founded in 1895 as a private liberal arts institution, UT Arlington has evolved through a succession of names and missions. The University achieved senior college status in 1959 and became part of The University of Texas System in 1965. Since then, the university has developed into an important component of the UT system. UT Arlington is one of six universities in Texas and one of two in North Texas with an Honors College devoted to exceptional students. Almost 4,500 UT Arlington students live on campus, the highest percentage in The UT System. Even more than UT Austin. UT Arlington offers 78 bachelor's degrees, 73 master's degrees and 33 doctoral degrees within 11 colleges and schools, including the School of Architecture, the College of Business Administration, and the School of Urban and Public Affairs.  [Top]

Campus Life at UT Arlington. The University of Texas at Arlington offers a full activities calendar that includes athletic contests, festivals, lectures, concerts, convocations and other events. The University's 260 student organizations are an eclectic mix of social, international, recreational, professional and special interest groups. The blue-and-white clad UTA Mavericks field NCAA Division I men's teams in basketball, baseball, indoor and outdoor track, cross country, tennis and golf, and women's teams in basketball, softball, volleyball, indoor and outdoor track, cross country and tennis. The Department of Campus Recreation offers recreation and wellness opportunities in five areas: informal recreation, intramural sports, a wellness program, sport clubs and aquatics. The recently renovated Fitness Center features cardiovascular machines with cable TV, weight rooms, basketball and racquetball courts, personal training and more.  [Top]
