American Airlines Center, a Premier Sports Venue. American Airlines Center has been the home of the Dallas Mavericks-also known as the Mavs-since 2001. The Mavericks are an NBA basketball team owned by the Internet businessman Mark Cuban. In 2006, the Mavericks advanced to the first NBA Finals in the franchise’s history by beating the Phoenix Suns in game 6 of the Western Conference. American Airlines Center is also home to the Dallas Stars, an NHL hockey team. In the 1998-1999 season, the Stars took on the Buffalo Sabers .They were able to win game 6 in Buffalo of the championship finals and brought the Stanley Cup home to Dallas. The Dallas Desperados, part of the Arena Football League, also call American Airlines Center home.
